Two men from a Fathers4Justice splinter group have scaled Westminster Abbey in a Father’s Day protest.

The pair, named as Stevenage man Bobby Smith and James Dennis, of Gloucestershire, hung banners from scaffolding at the top of the iconic central London church.

One read “parental alienation” and accused “the evil courts” of “child abuse”.

They were identified as belonging to New Fathers4Justice – which is not connected with the similarly-named fathers’ rights charity.

Another banner bore the words “give me back Elmo” – the name of the party Mr Smith formed to run against David Cameron in Witney last month.

The 33-year-old polled 37 votes to the Prime Minister’s 35,201, claiming Mr Cameron had “ignored” him for “the whole campaign”.

New Fathers4Justice said in a statement: “Father’s Day is an emotional time for fathers denied access to their children.”
